Smoked Salmon & Avocado Sushi - Japanese Appetizer

Ingredients

  • 250 g sushi rice
  • 3 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Caster sugar
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 4 sheet nori sheets
  • 200 g smoked salmon (sliced)
    Alternative: tofu
  • 1 piece Avocado (sliced)
  • 0.5 piece Cucumber (cut into strips)
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce (to serve)
  • 2 tsp wasabi (to serve)
  • 50 g pickled ginger (to serve)

Instructions

  1. Cook sushi rice according to package instructions. Allow to cool slightly.

  2. Mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt, then stir into the warm rice.

  3. Lay a nori sheet on a bamboo sushi mat. Spread a thin layer of seasoned rice, leaving a 2cm border at the top edge.

  4. Arrange smoked salmon, avocado, and cucumber strips across the rice.

  5. Roll up tightly using the sushi mat, sealing with the border.

  6. Slice into 6-8 pieces with a sharp knife.

  7. Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.
