Swedish Meatballs - Swedish Main Course

Ingredients

  • 500 g Ground beef
    Alternative: Ground turkey
  • 250 g Ground pork
    Alternative: Ground chicken
  • 1 piece Onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 clove Garlic (minced)
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 2 piece Eggs
  • 0.5 cup Milk
    Alternative: Oat milk
  • 1.5 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 4 tbsp Butter
    Alternative: vegan butter
  • 0.25 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
    Alternative: coconut cream
  • 2 tbsp Parsley (tbsp, chopped)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, eggs, milk, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and allspice. Mix gently until just combined.

  2. Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

  3. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches and cook, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides, about 10 minutes. Transfer to a plate.

  4. Sprinkle flour into the skillet drippings and whisk for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in beef broth and bring to a simmer.

  5. Stir in cream and simmer until sauce thickens, 5-7 minutes.

  6. Return the meatballs to the skillet and simmer for 10 minutes until cooked through.

  7. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.
